Diarmuid Gavin opens up about his crippling shyness – Irish Mirror

Celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin has told how he used to be so shy he locked himself in a hotel room for two days in South Korea.

Diarmuid said that although he liked to party in his 30s in London, he admitted he used to suffer from crippling shyness.

He said: “The shyness was incredibly limiting because it stopped me from doing stuff simply through embarrassment of being afraid to ask questions or whatever.

“I was once in Seoul in South Korea, having worked on some television show. And after the crew left, I didn’t leave the hotel room for two days.

“That has all changed. I’ve always loved what I do and I believe in what I do. Of course, it’s only gardening and it’s not world changing,” he told the RTE Guide.

Diarmuid also opened up about writing his 2010’s autobiography, How the Boy Next Door Turned Out, saying he wanted to write about flowers instead.

“I wanted to do a book called ‘Seven Chelseas’ or something like that.

“But the publishers weren’t interested in flower shows,” he added.
